Two Questions about DeDe Scozzafava

1. If I’m reading my Italian dictionary right, her name means ‘Shufflebean’, from scozzare, ‘to shuffle’, and fava, ‘bean’. How does one go about shuffling beans? Stir them up in a big bowl for minestrone?

2. Now that she’s withdrawn and endorsed the Democratic candidate, can the Republican Party ask for their $900,000 back? Can individuals who contributed to her under the impression that she was a Republican ask for their money back?

  3. Perhaps it is a variety of accountant (“bean-counter”) that excels at keeping two sets of books.

  4. I believe scozza fava means “scramble bean” from a game played at fairs that involves a sharpster challenging the marks to find under which shell a bean dyed red is hiding. Of course the mark is always wrong and loses his bet. I believe the English term is “shell game”.
You only wish I were joking.

  6. I don’t think it will work, but she’s setting herself up to be the new “Too Moderate for the Extremist GOP” poster child. She will get some flash in the pan exposure and end up much less relevant than Jeffords who actually changed the Senate majority.

  7. On what grounds could the Republican Party demand its funds back? It’s not possible they can claim fraud, as it was apparent to anyone with an IQ over his shoe size that Scozzafava was a left-liberal using the “R” as a vehicle to gain high public office. The RNC was using her the same as she was using them. They sowed the wind, now let them reap the whirlwind.

  9. Those conspiracists who said she would jump to the Dem party if elected, seem a little less crazy now.

  10. Scuzzyfava is precisely why I only contribute to candidates themselves and not to political parties. The parties are far too corrupt to warrant any trust in their judgments.
