Ask a Stupid Question . . .

The New York Observer reports that Newsweek and The Daily Beast are planning to merge, and adds: “What will the new entity be called? For now, Newsweek will be called Newsweek and The Daily Beast will be called The Daily Beast, with some intermingling of the names to come later.”

If they’re going to intermingle the names, they will have to call it ‘NewsBeast’, because ‘The Daily Week’ would be a really stupid name.

Tasteless Joke

If Whitman and Fiorina manage to win in California, it will terrify any Democratic Senator or Governor up for reelection in 2012. Could we call that effect ‘Brown Boxer Syndrome’?

Electoral Bingo

Watching the returns roll in can be dull at times, so I made a pair of Electoral Bingo cards to liven it up. Each contains 25 names, and I’ve tried not to include any ‘gimmes’ and quite a few unlikely pickups. I also used the Sequence Generator function at Random.org to put them in a random order, just to be fair. It’s just a coincidence that Barney Frank ended up right in the center of the second chart.

The first is for Senators (S) and Governors (G):

Each is skewed by my own interests. The second in particular includes more races from states I’ve lived in. Bold face indicates someone I’m particularly eager to see win, or lose, as the case may be. Over and under for a ‘Bingo!’? Maybe 10:00 Eastern?
