Someone’s been watching too much television. Cut on the Bias refers to “John Cardinal Ratzinger”. Pope Benedict XVI is — or was — Joseph Ratzinger. John Ratzenberger played Cliff Claven on Cheers. I assume you meant she referred to him as Ratzenberger?

No, the point is that she called him John, like the actor, when his name is Joseph. It’s not just the last names that differ.
